‘The Flash’ spoilers: Original series star to join Grant Gustin, John Wesley Shipp
Even without the premiere episode of “The Flash” airing yet, the CW series continues to do a very good job of making sure that all previous iterations of the character are tributed … even the ones that have already appeared on television.
As you may have heard already, the original TV Flash in John Wesley Shipp is going to appear on the revival as the father of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), and we now know that his co-star is going to join him. Sources confirm that Amanda Pays, who portrayed the part of Dr. Tina McGee on the original, will be reprising that role for an upcoming episode. The only difference here is that Pays (who, upon review, looked almost identical to Lizzy Caplan in the 1990s) will be playing the character as an employee of a rival company to STAR Labs.
While we suppose that this could be a little bit of a mind-bend for those who were devoted viewers of the original CBS show, we figure most everyone is sharp enough to figure it out. The two shows are independent from one another, but this is a very cool way to use one of them in order to properly pay homage to the other. “The Flash” is one of the biggest properties in all of DC Comics, but other than these TV shows and some cartoons, we feel like it has been largely under-utilized. The character has not been featured in any of the big feature film properties, and we’ll have to find out whether or not it stays that way moving forward.
For now, let’s just ask you this: Do you like the idea of Pays’ casting here? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to head over here to see a new video that is highlighting most of the show’s villains. You can also head over here in a flash to get some more news via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
