‘The Late Show with David Letterman’: Michael Strahan speaks out on Ray Rice headlines

Late Show -We have not discussed too much the Ray Rice story here on CarterMatt, mostly because of two simple reasons: It’s a human story that has nothing to do with television, and it is a sports story secondary to that. Also, this is the sort of story that is hard to write with extreme emotion or disgust at what Rice has been seen to do on video, and this veers us even further off-course in terms of subject matter.

With all this being said, we did want to share with you now Michael Strahan’s discussion with David Letterman on the matter Tuesday, and some of the interesting points that are made during this. Strahan obviously brings a unique perspective to the matter: He is a high-profile television personality, but he is also an NFL legend. He’s been in those locker rooms and seen the politics of the league unfold.

We do not know what Strahan’s feelings on the matter were prior to the video of Rice’s elevator assault hitting the internet Monday, but he says the right things here in hoping that this incident shines a light on the horrors of domestic violence, and that should not just stop when the furor over this particular story dies down.

Letterman’s skill as an interviewer here should be noted; while he knows how to be funny and skewer his guests, he was extremely patient here in allowing Strahan to speak his mind, give his opinion, and elaborate on certain points. It’s a worthy listen, especially since it only takes two minutes of your time. It also makes us realize even more how we will miss Dave after this year, since we’re not sure another late-night host could handle this subject matter in such a way without making it appear forced.
