Craig Ferguson wishes James Corden well, jokes about future, legacy (video)

Craig Ferguson -Yesterday, it was finally confirmed that James Corden would be taking over “The Late Late Show” from Craig Ferguson,  and this was news that we met with a bittersweet response. While we want Corden to do well, we are also still sad about losing one of our favorites in the world of late-night.

The picture for the video embedded below almost says it all: You’ve got Craig pointing at a picture of Corden while his Robot Skeleton sidekick Geoff watches on wearing a “Price Is Right” nametag. There’s also the dancing horse not too far off and candy that needs to be thrown. This is a show like no other, and we never felt like it came anywhere other than from Craig’s own heart. He and David Letterman combined were the best two interviewers for any network out there.

Ferguson’s reaction to Corden was both funny and honest. He wishes James well in the role, and applauded his talent and creativity. However, in an interview later with Michael Irvin, he also admitted that while he was happy for James to get the new gig, there was at the same time a part of him who also hoped that people would remember him even while they were watching the new guy. Once again, you have to give Craig some props for his honesty.

In all sincerity, we do feel like Corden is going to do a very good job hosting the new version of the show, but we definitely understand why there would be apprehension. More than anything, we hope Craig finds a new gig for him somewhere else, given that there was talk recently about his doing a show in the 7:00 p.m. hour.
