‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Carrie Diaries’ alum to romance Thea Queen

The CW loves to reuse many of their actors across multiple shows, which is why you see Nathaniel Buzolic, Robbie Amell, and others popping up in new projects.

Now, we can say the same thing about Austin Butler. You may remember him from “The Carrie Diaries,” and now sources claim that he will recur on “Arrow” season 3 as a new love interest for Thea Queen (Willa Holland). His character’s name is Chase, and he is a DJ who brings swagger and intelligence to what he does. The two may form some sort of professional relationship (does this mean that Thea is still in the club game?), and things could turn somewhat romantic after that.

We’ll start off here by saying this: We’re not a fan of the casting for now, but not because of Butler. We’re just not that interested in watching another Thea romance right now. It feels like there are so many other directions they could go with the character, and constantly pairing her, or many other characters on the show off, suggests almost that there is something not acceptable in being alone. We’d much rather see her just continue along her badass training with Malcolm Merlyn and stay focused on that for a while.

Then again, we’ll see what happens here. It would not be the first time that we’re lukewarm on a story decision, but change our mind after we see it in action on the show itself.
