‘Sherlock’ season 4: Andrew Scott’s AMA sets Reddit, the internet ablaze

Sherlock season 3Typically, taking part in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit is a great way to build camaraderie with the internet, and get a good many people out there on your side. Unfortunately, this did not work out nearly as well for Andrew Scott tonight.

The actor, best known for playing Moriarty on “Sherlock,” hopped on the site today to promote his new movie Pride, and gave what many on Reddit are referring to as one of the worst AMAs of all time. He answered a couple dozen questions, wrote less than 2/3 in total words of what we write for an average CarterMatt article, and often did not even answer many of the questions asked. We’d certainly put this up there with Morgan Freeman on the “most awkward celebrity AMA ever.”

We don’t know what happened here, and we are not going to speculate about it. Obviously someone thought that this was going go to be a good idea, and maybe he just got overwhelmed by it. Often the celebrity has someone helping to type up the answers (often it is Victoria from Reddit), but it’s hard to say what was the problem here.

Either way, this is a rare case of an AMA that does more harm than it does good, and it should be a cautionary tale for all those looking to do one in the future. One user actually compiled links to all the answers, that way you can save yourself the time of searching for them. (Note: There are very few answers in here that are genuinely good.)

Let’s just hope that in the end, season 4 of “Sherlock” is a little more exciting than this was. We’re just surprised that this generated more than 2,000 comments, even though most of these were trolling the AMA itself.

You can get some further “Sherlock” news (much more substantial than Scott talking about anything related to the show in the AMA) over at the link here. Also, sign up now for further TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
