‘The Newsroom’ season 3: New possible premiere date speculation

The latest -Over the past few weeks, one of our goals when discussing “The Newsroom” season 3 has also been trying our best to figure out just when it the world it could premiere. As of late, the only thing that HBO has really given us is “November.”

Well, we now know for sure that the date cannot be November 2, which we wondered in the past if it could be the premiere for Jeff Daniels and company’s last chapter on the network. In the midst of all the Emmy hoopla / Labor Day Weekend, a press release from the network became lost in shuffle, one confirmed that November 2 and 3 will be the two-night miniseries “Olive Kitteridge.” Just in case you are curious about the show, the official description via press release is as follows:

“Academy Award(r) winner Frances McDormand (“Fargo,” “North Country”) and Academy Award(r) nominee Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor,” HBO’s “Six Feet Under”) star in this HBO Miniseries drama, directed by Academy Award(r)-nominated director Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids Are All Right,” “Laurel Canyon”) from a teleplay by Emmy(r)-winner Jane Anderson (HBO’s “The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom” and “Normal”). Based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, OLIVE KITTERIDGE tells the poignantly sweet, acerbically funny and devastatingly tragic story of a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of a woman whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and a staunch moral center. The supporting cast includes Bill Murray, John Gallagher, Jr., Peter Mullan, Rosemarie DeWitt and Zoe Kazan. Executive produced by Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Frances McDormand and Jane Anderson.”

With this in mind, this would put “The Newsroom” premiering at the earliest on Sunday, November 9, given that the miniseries runs for two hours the week before and we cannot see HBO moving away from Sunday night as their go-to for original series. We cannot see it really premiering that much later than this, given that if it starts on November 9, it would be over come December 14 unless there is a double-episode somewhere. The last thing we would want if we were HBO is to have a series finale on December 21, when everyone is too busy preparing for Christmas to watch.
