‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 6 preview: ‘Bear Man,’ and Elam’s story
If you love the Elam character on “Hell on Wheels,” then you most likely have been waiting for next week’s new episode for some time. “Bear Man” is going to be the opportunity you have been hoping for to figure out what in the world happened to Common’s character following the events of the season 3 finale.
Of course, there are some minor spoilers ahead, but we figure that they’re not that shocking given that the show’s producers spoiled weeks ago that Elam was still alive. With that, take a look at the short synopsis (per TV Guide) for the episode below:
“Following an attack by a bear, Elam struggles to survive in a Comanche village and find his way back to Cheyenne.”
What we are especially hoping and waiting for is what happens if Elam can get back to his beloved Eva, especially after everything that she has been through on the series so far. If there is one person we really have felt terrible for all season long, it’s her. Hopefully, there is a point where she can turn it around, with Elam at her side.
There was a brief preview for the episode that aired immediately after tonight’s finished, and it gave a little bit of insight into the difficult position Elam finds himself in. He may not be of stable mind following the attack, and being in such a different environment may only make it worse.

I am thrilled to see Elam back! Cullen needs someone to watch his back. I know he misses his buddy. I love that friendship. Now maybe Cullen will stop being so “hen pecked”. I really do not like that new side of him. Looks like Elam is going to be even more of a bada$$. Can hardly wait.

Elam is one of the most important characters on this show. Not sure why they have left his name out of the lineup at the beginning of the show, where all the stars names are shown. If he does end up coming back my rating for this season will go up just based on his presence alone. I want to see Elam and Cullen take back Cheyenne. My watching this show is based on the strength of cast, always has been and always will be. Anybody can make a western tv series but when you have the likes of Anson, Common, and Colm, you should take notice.
