‘The Newsroom’ season 3 spoilers: Deeper analysis into first teaser

Over the weekend, we had an opportunity to post the first teaser video for “The Newsroom” season 3 … but unfortunately, the coverage of the night (which included the series finale of “True Blood” coupled with many other things) made it very difficult to really spend a whole lot of time discussing the content of this in an in-depth fashion.

Luckily, this is what this article is for! We’ve watched the teaser countless times and went through it frame-by-frame in some cases, and have come up with a number of key notes from the script pages (which we personally feel are legit, since it would be a waste of time to share them otherwise).

Familiar faces – Obviously Will McAvoy is back, and Don Keefer and Maggie Jordan are mentioned within the script pages. There’s also a line in here from Reese Lansing, which is proof that we will be seeing more of a certain “Mindy Project” star again.

Will’s in trouble – Could he head to prison? There is a legal crisis that involves at least some of his staff (especially Maggie), an encryption, and Will potentially being found in Contempt of Court. Maybe the story ties back to last year’s Operation Genoa, or maybe it is something new. Maggie suggests that she should just go ahead and be fired, which doesn’t sound like something he would do, even though he is accusing someone, presumably her, with “conspiring to commit espionage.” Another possibility here is that this could tie back into Reese’s phone-hacking habits from last season.

He could leave – The script pages end with him saying that it may be “time for [him] to quit.” If he does, the show will get far less interesting.
