‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Will Jenna Coleman leave after Christmas Special?

Doctor Who -The shelf life for a “Doctor Who” star is not an exceptionally long one, especially if that said “Doctor Who” star is a Companion. Most of them are lucky to just last a handful of seasons, and it typically comes from a mutual understanding. You often do not want to overstay your welcome, and this allows for the actors to go off and try other things after some exhausting work on this show.

So to hear the rumors coming out today that Jenna Coleman may be through playing Clara after “Doctor Who” season 8 does not surprise us at all. She’s been a part of the show since the midway point of season 7, and while her overall episode count feels small, at the same time she did do both the 50th Anniversary Special and the Christmas Special prior to the upcoming season this fall. Still, this would not put her at the same overall level as Karen Gillan, arguably one of the most-popular Companions ever.

These rumors are coming now courtesy of the Mirror, as a source has the following to say about them:

“The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out … By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.”

We personally hope that this is not true, mostly because we’d like to see at least another season and a half of Clara. However, we won’t be shocked if it is. She will have made a nice transition over from Matt Smith to Peter Capaldi’s era, and this would allow for an opportunity to cast a Companion who specifically could work alongside #12 in a unique and interesting way.

What do you think about the rumor, and will you miss Coleman if she does leave at the end of the year? Let us know, and transmit yourself over to this link to get some further TV updates now via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
