‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Robert Kirkman on sexuality of Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon
Could Daryl on “The Walking Dead” be gay? This is a popular theory that has emerged among some fans of the show, at least when it comes to the lack of sexuality brought on by the character (played by Norman Reedus) so far. While he has grown close to some select characters including Beth and Carol at various times during the journey so far, there has yet to be a love connection.
Finally, at least the brainchild behind the whole series is speaking out about this now. In the letters for the latest issue of the Walking Dead comic (which Daryl does not actually appear in), Robert Kirkman does not actually rule the theory out:
“All I can say is that it’s been discussed … We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality [or the seeming lack thereof], and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing … we’ll tackle it in the show.”
We like the theory and find the evidence interesting, but there’s also just the sole possibility that the character is almost asexual in a sense. Given that not every human being on planet earth is obsessed with true love or interested in finding a romantic partner, maybe the same could be said for Daryl, as well. He may also just be so busy in trying to figure out how to not die in a zombie apocalypse that love is not something he is continually thinking about.
