‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: First details on Michael Socha storyline
While much has been said about “Frozen,” Queen Elsa, and even Rumpelstiltskin at this point when it comes to “Once Upon a Time” season 4, it has been beyond easy to forget about Will Scarlet. Michael Socha was promoted to a series regular here not long after it was clear that “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” was canceled, but it was never quite understood why, and what he would bring to the show. It felt mostly like showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis really just liked the character of the Knave, and wanted to give him something further to do.
Finally, we are at least starting to get an idea of why this guy was included in the show in the first place … though there are still many mysteries to go along with it. ABC has released a new portion of their lengthy season synopsis that details what many series regulars are up to, and the part about Socha is near the end of this:
“[Newlyweds] Belle and Rumplestiltskin continue to be deeply in love with each other. But Rumple is hiding a secret from Belle — one that, if found out, could destroy their happiness – he continues to be the master of the dagger that calls upon him to be the Dark One. Can Emma and Hook commit to one another, and can these two damaged people take their love to the next level? Mary Margaret and David have a new baby, Prince Neal, and are looking forward to raising him into a proud, brave and loving adult. But they are still sad that they were not able to do this with Emma, instead helping her escape the curse when she was first born and not meeting her again until she was 28 years old. Henry is very happy to have both of his mothers back in Storybrooke. But with biological mom Emma and paternal grandfather Rumplestiltskin’s blood running through his veins, he will be tested by both the light and the darkness. Finally, Will Scarlet (Michael Socha, ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’), a former member of Robin Hood’s band of Merry Men, has traveled across many lands to make his way to Storybrooke. He finds himself intertwined in the goings-on in town for the first time as his mysterious past pushes him to an unknown future.”
What we wonder is whether or not the Knave could serve as romantic competition for either Belle or Emma, given that he brings something different to the table than either Rumple or Captain Hook. Another theory? Maybe his past connection with Robin Hood will have him firmly involve with his story, as he tries to figure out whether or not he wants to be with Marian moving forward, or his new love in Regina.

I agree with you Maureen, I also hope they dont destroy Hook and Emma’s relationship or have them turn out to agree not to be good for one another. Challenges are okay, don’t break them up!

I would be sorely dissapointed if the Knave was brought in as romantic competition with Emma. After the two season journey, which included the love triangle of Neal and even Milah , though she was dead, affecting interactions between Emma and Hook and the evolution of both the characters of Hook and Emma, to bring in a third party now would be so wrong. It would so cheapen for me what the writers have created with the promise of a true love relationship for Emma and Hook. After watching this show for 3 seasons, I don’t think the creators would go there. Not at this point where Emma and Hook are poised to further develop how they feel about each other. Adam and Eddie have to much integrity for that, IMO
