‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Details on the (eventual) Big Bad

Will there be a chief villain for “The Vampire Diaries” in season 6? At some point, it appears that the answer to that is “yes.” However, this is not going to be a reveal that happens over night, and it may take a little bit of time for whoever they are to really make an enormous impact.

After two or so seasons that were completely stuffed full of content to the point where things got rather confusing, we are pleased to report now that executive producer Julie Plec is saying almost everything that we would want to hear right now. Just take a look at her new comments via E! News:

“There is a big bad. it’s a long, slow-burn mythology that will unfold over the course of the entire season and will really impact each of our character in deep ways and it’s smart and it’s interesting and it’s small, which I like,” she teases. “Instead of trying to top ourselves year to year, we try to scale back and see if we can keep it really personal and rooted in character.”

This reminds us in a way of the show’s second season, where it took a very long time for Klaus to ever really enter the picture at all. The writers instead too their time of building up this incredibly-feared character, and by the time that he actually arrived on the scene, you knew that he was super-terrible news. The buildup for him was completely different than anything that the show has ever done since, and we’d love to see them go more in this direction again rather than making it less clear just who is the real villain to worry about.
