‘Supernatural’ season 10 spoilers: Jensen Ackles on the joy(?) of Demon Dean
The idea of using the word “joy” to describe someone like Demon Dean on “Supernatural” may seem extremely strange, and in many ways appropriately so. Demons are typically terrible, terrible people!
However, there at the same time may be something strange and oddly therapeutic for the character about letting go of all of the burdens that he’s carried over the years, whether it is the death of those he cared about, the lies he has told, or the failures that he wishes he could take back. As Jensen Ackles tells E! News in a new interview, this version of dean is almost a completely free vessel that is fun to explore as an actor … but probably not for the other characters.
“It was a tough season for old Dean last year. He was going through a lot… I wanted to take all of that away, all the weight of the world, all the heavy, the guilt, all of that stuff, remove all of that, because Demon Dean does not care. That’s kind of where I went with this character. He is Dean without a care in the world… It’s not comedic, it’s almost scarier. He cares so little for everything and everybody, and he loves it.”
This version of Dean sounds like something that everyone else really has to be afraid of, and for god reason given just how capable he is of smashing hearts / souls and causing destruction. Just remember here the whole Mark of Cain situation that is still very much playing out, even though it may occasionally be easy to forget about it since the Demon part of the story is a worthy distraction.
