‘Girl Meets World’ season 2 official; Disney Channel wastes little time with renewal

Girl Meets World -Despite some creative bumps in the road so far, the Disney Channel is making their commitment at the moment to “Girl Meets World” rather clear: They want to be taking on the world for quite a while moving forward.

The network confirmed Wednesday that the show has been greenlit for a second season, which will start production in Los Angeles this November. This comes after the show posted huge ratings for the premiere, and has since seen its audience level off at a level still somewhat higher than most other shows on the network. The expectations are still high here, given that you have Cory and Topanga back on the air for the first time in a decade and a half.

In a statement confirming the news, the network’s executive vice-president of original programming Adam Bonnett had the following to say:

“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World … We’re looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way.”

We hope the show continues for a long time, even though we do feel like it needs to pull back from some of the romance a little and focus more on the humor. Right now, it’s a little too mired in some of its own sentimentality. Also, more screen time for Auggie and Farkle! Right now, these two characters are the surprise of the entire series.

As always, we’ll have another “Girl Meets World” review coming up this weekend.
