‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ receives 90-minute premiere; ‘Big Brother 16’ finale equal length
Love a little more of your favorite CBS reality shows? Then you should be pleased to know that it was made official on Monday that both “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” and “Big Brother 16” will receive 90-minute episodes come Wednesday, September 24.
The news about this for both shows probably comes as a surprise to virtually no one, given that this is something that has happened in past years. It makes sense for “Big Brother” to run long given all they have to go through, while “Survivor” probably needs a little longer to introduce both the new players and the family members that will be a part of their season. This show is taking what is another very-big risk for them, given that you have people who have never played the game before in a format that was geared around all-stars and their loved ones last time around.
One of the only reasons that this schedule change was not announced previously is because it was originally the plan to put the finale of the Halle Berry show “Extant” on this night, as well. However, that was abandoned seemingly due to the low ratings the show is drawing in the 18-49 demographic. It will not end a week earlier on September 17, which ensure that it is clear of the network’s fall schedule. The following Wednesday will see the premiere of the rest of the CBS Wednesday lineup, which includes their long-running hit “Criminal Minds.”
