‘The Newsroom’ season 3: On Jeff Daniels, Olivia Munn, story arcs, and more
As a way to prepare for the eventual return of “The Newsroom” to HBO at some point down the line, we’ve been presenting some occasional articles all about possible premiere dates, storylines, and much more.
So with that in mind, and with filming now officially complete, why not turn to speculating about some of the show’s couples? Not all of them are together right now, and not all of them may be by the time the series finale airs. But, there are three that have dominated in terms of airtime and fan support, and it’s worth examining where they could be when the show picks up. After all, we are assuming that there will be some sort of time jump from one season to the next.
Will (Jeff Daniels) and Mackenzie (Emily Mortimer) – The last we saw the two of them, they were officially getting engaged, even though they were not even a real couple at the time. We presume by the time we see them again that they will either be planning a wedding, or will have already walked down the aisle. Given the buildup, it would make zero sense to suddenly split the two characters up now.
Don (Thomas Sadoski) and Sloan (Olivia Munn) – In the season 2 finale Sloan kissed Don after realizing that he had purchased her book at an auction. Now, we’d like to assume that they are in a relationship. This is a little more of a fluid situation, though; it’s always possible that they tried something and it simply did not work.
Jim (John Gallagher Jr.) and Maggie (Allison Pill) – This has been the potential coupling that has been so obvious from the beginning that it would be ironic if it doesn’t actually happen. We assume that it will be explored during season 3, but there’s nothing confirmed on that front and the two are not entering it after any sort of huge moment.
