‘Girls’ season 4 spoilers: Director Spike Jonze joins … in acting role
How about this for a surprise? Rather than do his typical writer / director thing, Spike Jonze is coming onto “Girls” season 4 as an actor. Surprised? We were.
TVLine was the first to report that Jonze had signed on to the HBO show, and he will be playing the part of Marcos. That is all that the network will confirm right now, as they continue to follow along their trajectory of being as secretive as humanly possible about some of the people they are trying to bring on board the cast.
As for right now, Jonze is probably at a peak in his career creatively coming off of the big success of the movie “Her,” though he’s done a number of other great things over the course of his career. Jonze has done some acting work before, but at times it has been in uncredited, small roles in big productions like “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
This is actually not even close to the biggest “Girls”-related headline at the moment, and it’s thanks to coming off of the announcement that Allison Williams (Marnie) is going to play the title role in NBC’s upcoming musical production of “Peter Pan.” While this is the sort of thing that will require a huge amount of work and preparation, we do not expect it to be a hindrance at all in anything that Williams is trying to do with the HBO show. Both have separate schedules, and by the time the musical actually airs “Girls” will have been long wrapped for the season. (It will most likely premiere in January, as it has both of the past two years.)
