‘Covert Affairs’ season 5, episode 7 preview: A look at ‘Brink of the Clouds’

“Brink of the Clouds” is a pretty bold name for an episode of “Covert Affairs,” and one that at least for superficial reasons, we very much like. There is a great sense of drama and mystique behind it, and that feels appropriate for an episode that is going to have Annie Walker traveling yet again with McQuaid.

This time around, her destination is a country in Azerbaijan that most Americans probably do not know even exists … and yes, that is as incredibly sad as it looks on paper. What are they doing there? Basically, it’s a simple search mission that is probably going to end up being not nearly so simple when the dust actually settles.

If you want to know more specifics about what to expect, just take a quick look at the official synopsis below:

“Annie and McQuaid travel to Azerbaijan in search of a mysterious, off the grid ex-CIA officer. Auggie’s devastated to discover unfortunate details about an old friend. Calder’s actions lead to a confrontation with Joan.”

Right now, we feel like “Covert Affairs” is doing a pretty solid job of balancing everything that it needs to balance, from the action to the drama to the humor and even a little romance. Early on in the season, we were a little worried that it was going to try to do too much. At this point, though, we’re happy that these fears have subsided a little bit. We’ll wait until this season formally comes to a close, though, to start comparing it to others that are already complete.
