‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, ‘Scandal’ season 4, and the newest ABC promo
ABC not only wants you to watch and enjoy “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” but they apparently want you to do so in a very specific way.
The interesting thing about the new promo released by the network for these two shows, plus the new one entitled “How To Get Away with Murder,” is pretty much the way that they are being marketed. The network wants you to spend your night drinking wine and tweeting away about anything and everything that happens on the show … just in case all the little hashtags are somehow not enough of a reminder of what you should be doing.
We do in some ways understand the strategy, given that tweets are being measured more and more, even though it’s not entirely clear about how you can properly measure the effectiveness of these. Some do claim that Twitter has helped to make “Scandal” a hit, and maybe that is in part to. Maybe they think that this could work just as well for “How To Get Away with Murder.”
We’ll just have to see if this strategy, and also catering so heavily towards women, will end up working well for the shows. This is at least something different than anything that the other major networks are doing right now. The likes of NBC and CBS typically use male voice-overs only in their promos, and they also don’t suggest what you should be doing while you are watching.
