‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Possible premiere dates for Jeff Daniels, cast
When could we see “The Newsroom” back on the air? Now that production on the third and final season is over, this feels like the appropriate time to have this conversation.
Let’s start with a little bit of logic when it comes to HBO’s schedule. They tend to run the majority of their dramas on Sunday nights, and “Boardwalk Empire” is premiering on Sunday, September 7. This is set to only consist of eight episodes, which means that it will air its series finale in the end of October, provided there are no weeks off.
So where does this leave Jeff Daniels and the rest of the cast? Provided that the talk about the final season being only six episodes turns out to be true, along with the show potentially premiering this fall, there are a pair of options here:
- The new season comes on after “Boardwalk Empire” at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, and airs there for a few weeks until the season comes to a close.
- The new season premieres in early November and runs straight through to the start of December. There is plenty of time to do this before the holiday season, and this gives HBO a chance to run original programming for a long stretch of time.
We certainly cannot see the show running into early next year, given that the network tends to pair “Girls” up with another drama show … and one that probably has a longer episode count. “True Detective” was in this spot last time, but we have a hard time thinking it will be ready next year in January.
