‘The Blacklist’ season 2: Notes on Megan Boone, big castings, more

The Blacklist logo any seasonWe’re thrilled to be writing a story first and foremost about “The Blacklist” season 2 this weekend, mostly because of the fact that we weren’t quite sure that this would happen going into it. Thanks to filming schedules and also it being on the East Coast, not everyone was present at Comic-con this weekend. That’s a shame to us, given that we do feel like there is an almost comic quality to it with Reddington as this sort of maniacal supervillain. (Then again, maybe we’re just imagining him as Ultron.) However, there was still James Spader. More soon!

The first good news to note is that the show is just about ready to rock and roll. In a post on Twitter today, Megan Boone (Liz Keen) confirmed that she has read the premiere script! She also accompanied that with an evil laugh of her own, which somehow has us more excited about this episode than we were previously. This will air on Monday, September 22, and will continue the Berlin story while also hopefully giving us some answers about how Reddington got those scars. (We may as well just litter this with as many comic references as possible.)

Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp also posted only recently that there are some major casting developments being made, which we are hoping are in the field of villains. We want to see a rogues’ gallery of people that can be this show’s Sinister Six, or show up at least on more than just an occasion or two. The first season was excellent, but we feel like the thing that would take this over the top would be having more consistent adversaries. We realize that this could be tough for a show that is in part procedural, but the producers are sharp enough and then some.
