‘Big Brother 16’ live feed spoilers: Derrick Lavasseur’s grandfather dies
This is turning out to just be a week of sadness when it comes to “Big Brother 16” and things happening to contestants outside of the game. When we first heard the news that Frankie Grande’s grandfather passed away, we knew that this was going to be a difficult situation for all. The show has gone through some similar things dating back to season 2 when September 11 happened, but the only time really since then when personal issues impacted the game was with Evel Dick in season 13.
So to see something like this happen twice in one week has to be all sorts of devastating. It was only two days ago that Frankie received a letter from home, and tonight Derrick Lavasseur received one of his own saying that his grandfather has passed away.
Derrick so far is handling this in a different way than Frankie; he hasn’t openly wept on the same level, and has mostly sat silent in a sofa while the rest of the house sits around him. Derrick has been so careful to not be the center of attention most of the time during this game, this has to be an extremely hard situation for him. We also worry about him given that he knows much of his job and his life revolves around looking serious and never showing weakness, and he has cameras on him at every turn.
There’s really not much else we can say right now, since the game has been put on hold for the time being while everyone just tries to care for Derrick in whatever way that they can. We imagine that he could still make the decision to leave the game if he wanted to, but there hasn’t been any indication he is planning to do that just yet, given that the whole reason he came in the first place was to win the money to help his family.
For now, our thoughts are with his family back home during what has to be a very difficult time for them.
