‘NCIS’ season 12 notes: More on Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette
For the most part, things are quiet now on the “NCIS” set, with one of the biggest reasons for that being simply that there is not a whole lot of time to waste right now. Filming is underway for the first handful of episodes, and this show is like a well-oiled machine at this point. You have to be, given that you have 24 episodes to make in a window of around nine months.
With all this being said, here are a pair of mini-stories that are at least worth mentioning this week.
Michael Weatherly, cast at TCA – While “NCIS” itself was not technically featured at TCA, it may as well have been given that “NCIS: New Orleans” was featured, and Mark Harmon was there to speak about the show along with Gary Glasberg.
Also, most of the cast was there to walk the red carpet! Among the attendees were Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, Brian Dietzen, Emily Wickersham, and more. It’s yet another sign of the family atmosphere that the show has.
An awkward turn – It seems strange to go from discussing something happy like TCA to something pretty serious, but Perrette had a serious medical crisis this week after suffering from an allergic reaction due to hair dye. She explains further in the KCAL9 video below, and also discusses how she may opt to wear a wig in the future rather than run the risk of going through something similar like this again.
The new season of “NCIS” will premiere on Tuesday, September 23, and you better believe that we’ll have more updates from all of the cast before then. Stay tuned…

Maybe it’s like a family now that CdP is gone because although she certainly has the right to quit a job, her very last minute resignation was quite unprofessional and left her “family” in a terrible position. The whole last half of season 10 was devoted to an (puke worthy) arc about her character. I think that tptb did the best they could with such a limited amount of time in which to shift gears.
I really hope that Tony can get some great action and danger scenes this season but I fear it will be all Gibbs, McGee and Bishop again. I don’t understand why McGee and Bishop go everywhere now while Tony does next to nothing but click the clicker back in DC. I wonder if Michael Weatherly is being punished for some reason or another or if tptb are under some kind of directive to never write his character in a way that elicits sympathy or flatters him. I hope that Tony gets some attention that isn’t just the usual humiliating comic relief with the upcoming “romance” but I don’t trust tptb to give his character anything flattering at this point. All flattery seems to shine on Gibbs now.

I’m wondering if the reason Tony was held back a little more last season was because MW and his wife were expecting their second child and he requested a lighter work load towards the end of her pregnancy and he first couple of weeks after the baby was born. As a huge Tony fan, I am hoping that he is more front and center this season. And Gibbs, well, he is the star of the show but maybe his role will be cut back some because of NCIS NOLA and the extra work he has getting that show up and running.

I had heard that was the reason Michael did’t direct an episode last season, even though he was supposed to. It makes sense, though.

The “family” thing was revealed to be a complete joke when the show did its best in season 11 to pretend Ziva never existed. Not one mention of someone who spent 8 years as a member of the team, who Gibbs treated as a daughter, and he brushes her off in one grunted line. Sorry but the family thing is a joke.

There’s a difference between the cast being family and the characters being family, and the story above was about the cast being family. Michael, Pauley and Brian have all mentioned that they’ve kept in touch with CdP since she left NCIS.

Years ago when Cote first joined NCIS, there was/is an interview about the ladies of NCIS on Youtube. Pauley mentions about how the cast had to adjust after Sasha decided to leave and how it is a double whammy. They not only have to adjust to new cast members in real life but their fictitious TV characters have to adjust to new team members as well and they have to show that in the show to make it believable. I too, don’t like how no one at least mentions Ziva’s name once in a while but to look at it from another point of view – it could represent the pain they all feel; the characters in the show and in real life personally as well. Losing Cote was a huge blow to them. Some families don’t talk about losses. I have/had a brother who just disappeared in 1999 and we don’t talk about it. I want to, but others don’t, so I have to respect that. In our own personal lives/families we have to adjust (or not) to new additions usually through a birth or marriage and losses through death or divorce. That’s life. NCIS is no different than any other TV show. They’ve had their share of changes and it will continue to happen and are at a higher risk of happening the longer a show remains on TV. The majority of us that were upset over Cote’s departure were mostly upset over the suddenness of it. As I’ve said in other posts if she had actually made a decision to leave sometime in Season 10 and we as fans had heads up, while not happy, it probably would have gone over a little easier. And yes, I too, know that Cote and former cast mates have kept in touch. I don’t know her, but what I’ve gleaned from everything I’ve read about her she seems to be very level headed and probably very skilled at dealing with the political mine field in Hollywood. She has kept quiet to let things blow over. I’ve got a feeling she’ll be back, not this year but at some point in the next few seasons probably as a guest star not as a full time character. Then we will see the reconnection of “family”. We just have to be patient and that’s not easy.

Marysue, I agree. My comment wasn’t meant to dismiss the “Ziva not being mentioned” aspect – I’m not a Ziva fan, and even I think it’s a bit strange that she’s not. I wouldn’t want her mentioned every episode, but a reference once and a while would not go amiss – the flag in Abby’s lab is a good example.
My comment was more directed at separating the cast from the characters. To say that “[t]he ‘family’ thing was revealed to be a complete joke” due to a character not being mentioned when the comment was about the cast and crew and is patently false is insulting to them and to Cote de Pablo.

You got that right. As a result we can’t blame Cote for not returning. I just hope that Season 12 turns out good and we can all just move on.
