‘The Last Ship’ spoilers: Eric Dane on stories, being Captain, more

Through its first four episodes, TNT’s “The Last Ship” has done a very good job of building on what was already a pretty solid foundation for itself. We’ve not only come to know a little more about the individual characters, but also about what life on a ship is like for some of these men and women. It’s an interesting struggle that the show has: You have to create an authentic environment for what it would be like for these members of the Navy, while at the same time also sell this story that has a sci-fi twist to it.

Based on Eric Dane’s comments in the video below, these are all reasons why this project was so appealing in the first place. He opens up about what it is like being a part of this show, summarizes the story, and also explains how being a captain in real life so so different than what is often displayed on TV and film. This is not a man who spends all of his time barking orders at crew members; he does deeply care about them and treats them like a part of the family, and is tough only when the situation calls on it.

Ultimately, one of the best things to us about this video is merely the way that Dane smiles while talking about the show. You can tell that to him, this is really not just any ordinary job; there are some very cool things about being a part of the show, and telling this story about a crew who gets placed in some extreme circumstances.
