‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Jeff Daniels and a dark ACN desk
Just as any fan of HBO’s “The Newsroom” likely knows at this point, the upcoming third season of the show is its last. Not only that, but it will be on the air a handful of weeks and then gone.
In a new post on Twitter, Jeff Daniels let the feeling seep in a little bit more this week that filming for the show is indeed over, and there is nothing left for him to do as Will McAvoy. Sad news, given that he has already score an Emmy win and two nominations (with the second one pending) in the first two seasons. Imagine what sort of ground this show could have covered if it lasted a little while longer.
In addition to this image Daniels shared of a dark anchor’s desk, he also attached the simple message of “And that’s a wrap.”
The show for its final season definitely has plenty of ground to cover. Given the timing we expect them to skip over Sandy Hook (that just seems to be too raw and emotional to script), but we could see discussions of gun control among the on-air characters. Also, we anticipate further coverage of the Middle East, President Obama, and also the constant cable news debate about how to cover stories like the Malaysian Airlines crash in the middle of the Indian Ocean, which dominated CNN earlier this year far longer than any reasonable person would have expected.
This show was fast-paced, occasionally optimistic, and above all wonderfully acted and written. All of these are on the list for reasons why we are going to miss it.
