‘The Following’ season 3 spoilers: Casting a (possible) new villain
“The Following” has introduced a variety of different killers so far, from a wealthy woman adopting other killers to a professor to a few vagabonds and runaways. But what about the idea of a “deadly dad”? This is something that sounds pretty horrifying, and it’s also a character that you will see in the upcoming third season.
Specifically, TVLine reports that this character will be a recurring role, and also a husband. His dark side is something that he has kept hidden from everyone for the entirety of his life … but we imagine that it is not going to stay that way too much longer.
Now, we know what the inevitably thought is that comes into your head after hearing this: The Trinity Killer is coming back! This does seriously sound a lot like John Lithgow’s Emmy-winning character from “Dexter,” but we’re basing it on just an archetype and a few little details when there could be so much more revealed.
The fact that we are at least hearing about characters to be cast now is something that we consider to be a good sign, given that it shows that producers are working very hard on making sure that the story and everything this coming spring is set in stone. There are many negative things we could say about season 2, but one of the biggest ones is that there was almost no continuity or theme to it from the start to the finish.
What do you think about the idea of this character … at least for now? Share your thoughts below, and head over here if you missed the recent news about Ryan Hardy maybe getting a new love interest. First off, you are so completely spot on about there being no continuity or overarching theme to Season 2. It all felt like it was written by a bunch of college kids who needed to come up with something before the deadline so they threw whatever came into their heads on the paper and called it a script. On second thought, more likely a bunch of hamsters because college kids could have done better. Secondly, so we will be treated to a “new” baddie who is a husband and a father and whose dark side was kept hidden for years. Uhhhhhhhh, doesn’t this pretty much describe Joe Carroll? Or Joe before we first met him in Season 1 since he had already been convicted and on death row. So unless this means we are going to see a lot of flashbacks of Joe, the Early Years, then this sounds to me like we are simply recycling Joe and giving him a different name. Personally, I prefer the original, but if you’re going to come up with a “new” baddie, at least make him or her actually be NEW.
