‘Person of Interest’ season 4 spoilers: The premiere title is…
Few shows like to confuse you with their season premiere titles quite like “Person of Interest,” and for some more examples of this very thing, you do not have to look any further than this article.
According to TVLine, the show’s first episode back is going to be entitled “Panopticon” … which is definitely something that we would classify as confusing unless you either knew the term in advance, or went online to do some of the research. We opted for more of the latter.
After viewing the title, it is safe to say that this name is perfect. Basically, a panopticon is a structure that is built specifically for the purpose of giving a watchman the power to have as close of a panoramic view as possible of his surroundings, while at the same time ensure that the people he or she is watching do not know that there are eyes gazing upon them much of the time. The best example and usage of this is a prison, that was those in general population are forced to behave themselves to the best of their ability at all times, since they never know that someone is watching you.
Obviously, the use of technology has rendered the more archaic usage of this term meaningless … but you can see the connection between this, the Machine, and now Samaritan. It’s a perfect way to ultimately bridge the gap to show the desperate situation that Reese, Finch, and the rest of the cast are currently in as we near the start of the biggest season to date.
