‘The Amazing Race Canada 2’ episode 2 review: Who left for medical reasons?

The Amazing Race CanadaIt’s a bummer that we have to start off a review of “The Amazing Race Canada”with something sad like an evacuation, mostly because in all of the seasons of this show we’ve seen all around the world, there’s never really been one where we’ve witnessed a team go home for a major injury.

Sadly, that befell Jen & Shawn tonight, as Shawn suffered what seemed to be a freak injury to his shoulder while trying to surface. They seemed like such nice people, and we feel bad for them. They had a tough leg last week, and this one was clearly even tougher. It seemed for a while that Ryan & Rob, who flip-flopped on the Detour relentless, were destined to come in last, this injury really changed that. Both these guys and Rex & Bob, who simply couldn’t do the surfboard task and were forced to take a penalty, were bailed out. Someone should really just eliminate the latter for quitting so many challenges.

As for the rest of  the episode…

We could live for the unintentional comedy of Sukhi  & Jinder alone on “The Amazing Race Canada” this season. First, the two struggle with the Detour placing fish in certain bins because Sukhi has one stuck in her pants, and then they stop to recharge their electric card when it actually doesn’t need to be charged at all.

The biggest irony to all this is that the two could have really messed up even more and managed to stay in this leg. This episode had tasks, from fish sorting to surfing to construction, that mostly paid off the teams that had patience. The only one that was really skill-based at all was the surfing, and you could blow through that quickly if you knew what you were doing.

The winners of this leg in Natalie & Meghan are turning out to be complete beasts on this season. Two legs, and two first-place finishes. They haven’t dominated every task, but what’s important is that when they don’t struggle, they really blow through things. They are somewhat reminiscent of Jet & Cord from the American version that way.

Obviously the injury changed the entire course of the episode and deleted any sense of unpredictability; still, it was a reminder on a reality show that was huge and ambitious that there are still real-life things that can happen. Grade: B+

One last note … how many times do we need to hear Nicole tell her son how proud of him she is?
