‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4: ABC head touts big things from ‘Frozen’ – Elsa story
At the end of last season, “Once Upon a Time” took a huge risk by deciding that they wanted to introduce the characters from “Frozen” into their world. This is a movie that has become sacred to many families in the past year, and it’s also extremely recent. Whether it be “Peter Pan” or “The Wizard of Oz,” most of the stories that the show has taken on over the years were originally popular decades ago. (We suppose that this is the same given that “Frozen” is based on “The Snow Queen,” but it’s still a different situation.)
So far, though, it appears as though there is nothing to worry about when it comes to the show potentially not meeting the potential of the movie. ABC head Paul Lee was bullish on the show at the network’s Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour event today, frequently claiming that the show doesn’t get enough critical acclaim thanks mostly to it being catered more towards families.
One other thing to note here is that John Lassiter, who is basically the big boss for all things Disney animation at this point, has already been out to Vancouver where the show films. That is proof that the “Frozen” property is super-valuable to the parent company, and we are going to probably see a little more collaboration in that regard than we have in the past with some other franchises. The last thing that ABC probably wants is to twist anyone, whether it be Anna, Elsa, or someone else, that it impacts opinions that kids may have about the characters in the movies. We don’t envy the position that showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are in creatively here, but we’ll sure that they will figure it out and please everyone.
