‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Jeff Daniels on Emmy love; Olivia Munn chimes in
While we’ll have to wait until later this year (at the earliest) to find out just what “The Newsroom” has in store for us for its third and final season, we really don’t have to wait for something else right now: The reaction from Jeff Daniels to his second straight Emmy nomination.
Last year, the man behind Will McAvoy was a surprise winner in the Actor in a Drama Series category, which largely thrilled us given how overlooked he is in much of the press for his work. So to get the honor again with all of the tough competition this time around, especially with Bryan Cranston, Jon Hamm, and the two guys from “True Detective” on the ballot, is something that has to thrill him. In response to the nomination, Daniels wrote the following in a post on Twitter:
“Honored by the Emmy Nom. 3yrs ago, Sorkin Vet told me, “Wait’ll you see what you get to say.” Just ridin’ his words.”
Daniels was not the only person this week to talk about the love bestowed upon him by the Emmys. His co-star Olivia Munn was quick to also speak out, praising both him along with one of the other nominees for the show in Jane Fonda (who is a Guest Actress in a Drama Series):
“CONGRATS to @Jeff_Daniels and @Janefonda for their Emmy nominations today for #Newsroom!! So exciting and so so so deserved!! *high-five*!!”
We’ll have to wait and see until next month if either one of these two are able to actually pull off the victories in their categories, since it would once again be an upset. As a matter of fact, we’re pretty sure that the TV Academy has already made a trophy for Allison Janney for her role on “Masters of Sex.”
