‘How I Met Your Dad’ (in its current form) officially dead

CBS -For all of you hoping that “How I Met Your Dad” would somehow see the light of day, it looks like are going to be the bearer of bad news today: The show is not going to be moving forward anytime soon.

According to TVLine, the contracts for Greta Gerwig and the rest of the cast expired at the end of June, which pretty much closes the door on the official continuation of the “How I Met Your Mother” franchise … for now. CBS heavily considered picking up the pilot, but didn’t feel that the creative punch was there in the level that it needed to be.

So what happens now? The website claims that 20th Century Fox is still interested in a show that continues the tradition of the original starring Josh Radnor, but it’s going to take a while for it to get to the air, if ever. We’re mostly likely looking at a brand-new pilot at this point, with potentially new actors and a new script that more networks will be interested in.

The crazy thing about all of this is that it shows how one hour of television can drastically change everything. Before the “How I Met Your Mother” finale debacle, this was one of the most treasured franchises in the TV industry. Unfortunately, the fact that the show failed to stick the landing has made it almost impossible for anyone to want to commit to a new series unless they have the utmost confidence that it will be amazing.

We’ll have some more updates potentially when we get deeper into pilot season, but it feels like this is going to be it for the time being.
