‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Which star just landed their next TV role?
We’ve been talking quite a bit lately about the future for some cast members of “The Newsroom” after the end of the HBO show, which is coming up in the not-too-distant future. The third season is the last one, and its episode order is limited.
So right after we told you that Emily Mortimer (Mackenzie McHale) has signed on to do a new movie project, we now have some more news regarding Sam Waterston going a different route when it comes to the TV medium: Netflix.
According to Deadline, the man behind Charlie on the HBO series is going to be appearing on the upcoming Netflix comedy “Grace and Frankie,” which actually stars a woman he worked with plenty on “The Newsroom” in Jane Fonda. Waterston will play the husband to Lily Tomlin’s character, who is a rival to Fonda’s. The whole premise of the story, though, is that the two women’s husbands announce that they are in love with each other rather than the women that they are with. It’s a little twisted, but in that sense pretty perfect for the Netflix medium.
Given his past on “Law & Order,” Waterston is clearly a guy who enjoys working within the world of series television. The one thing that will be different for him here is trying to figure out what life is like now having all of your episodes air at once. There are many other co-stars from “The Newsroom” who we expect to line up other work soon. We know that Jeff Daniels has “Dumb and Dumber To” (yes, it is spelled like that) coming up, but could he jump back to another show after that?
