‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Chris Messina on another side of Reese Lansing
Could Reese Lansing actually end up becoming likable by the end of the “The Newsroom” this coming season? That may be a little too much to ask, but it at least seems like you are going to have a few more opportunities to see dimensions to this character that you did not necessarily know where there previously.
Chris Messina is active right now in the interview circuit courtesy of promoting “The Mindy Project” for Emmy voters, but he also explained to TVLine that for this upcoming season his character, who was previously involved in a phone-hacking scandal that brought shame to ACN’s parent company, could show off many more dimensions:
“[Many roles I have played] have started off as either hated or just not liked, and then you warm up to them or realize there’s another side, which is fun to play. That happens with Reese … You see another side of him.”
The important thing that “The Newsroom” really needs to do in order to thrive is really prove time and time again that these are all characters with dimension, and they all have so much more going for them than you would first see. This is why people like Will McAvoy can be both likable and also tool boxes from time to time depending on the situation, and why we also both cheer for and are frustrated by someone like a Maggie or a Jim.
There is no firm premiere date yet for “The Newsroom” season 3, but given that we are enormous fans of the series, you can believe we will be talking about this soon enough.

I wish they would make this a regular series of at least 13 episodes per year.
