‘Saturday Night Live’ inspires two new Ben & Jerry’s flavors; we make our own

SNL -Who knew that “Saturday Night Live” and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream were going to inspire so much synergy? It certainly is crazy, but the show has managed to pull this off.

Following the success of Schweddy Balls, the famous flavor inspired by the classic sketch that some conservative people actually found offensive, the ice-cream giant has confirmed a pair of new flavors that should be familiar to some longtime viewers of the show.

  • Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch – Chocolate and sweet-cream ice cream, plus a marshmallow swirl, caramel clusters, and chocolate-covered almonds. Gilly is one of Kristen Wiig’s most-famous characters, which makes the timing here interesting given that Wiig has been off the show for a little while now. Also, we hate Gilly. Always have, and possibly always will. Too annoying and repetitive.
  • Lazy Sunday – A cake batter ice cream with yellow and chocolate cake pieces and a swirl of chocolate frosting. “Lazy Sunday” is one of the most-popular Digital Shorts ever created, which also makes this timing interesting given that Andy Samberg’s no longer a regular cast member.

Since we feel like Ben & Jerry’s could have picked better flavors, allow us now to come in with some of our own picks.

  • Drunk Uncle – Rum-flavored cake with vanilla and cola-flavored pieces. Or, add a swirl of another alcoholic beverage flavor for more drunkenness.
  • Stefon’s surprise – Make the ice cream a rainbow swirl and include gummy figurines of some of the random people who appear in New York’s hottest club.
  • Get in the Cage – 25 different flavors mixed into one pint to represent the millions of Nicolas Cage films we are forced to “enjoy.”
  • Airplane Food – Standard vanilla ice cream stuffed with the food suggestions from Aidy Bryan’s Worst Woman on an Airplane sketch.
