‘Royal Pains’ season 6, episode 2 review: ‘Who is Emma’ 2.0

On tonight’s new episode of “Royal Pains,” we had more questions than answers most of the time. Who is Emma, exactly? She came in here with this pretense of coming from money and being a long lost daughter of Eddie R. Lawson.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for there to be cracks in her story. She was wearing a dress with the tags on it, and we learned not that long afterward that she was also working within the back of a restaurant.

All of this led to Evan and Paige in therapy, trying to figure out how to get Emma back after they realized that she was lying to them about how much money she had.

In the end, we did find out the truth about her: She helps to run a diner, and is really just ordinary above all else. It’s a familiar “pretending you have riches when you really have rags” story, and an interesting one since it gives us a very different character than who we have already. She is a nice injection of reality into a show that often has its head in the clouds. She met Eddie at the end, and let’s just say that didn’t go particularly well and we have a cliffhanger for next week.

As for the case of the week, that was standard fare regarding a tennis player. It’s hard to break anything down in here given that there were few revolutionary moments, or elements here that feel like they are going to last forever. The only thing to take note of was that Tracy the athlete was front and center for everything, when it comes to both her own medical symptoms and also that of a man who loves her. Grade: B.
