‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 5, episode 2 review: Jason DiLaurentis returns; a body is found
On tonight’s new episode of “Pretty Little Liars,” secrets and showdowns were the name of the game. There were many creepy ones within, but one of the creepiest came around 47 minutes in when Ali and Mona came face-to-face for the first time since she arrived back in Rosewood.
This scene was definitely intense, and it ended with one of the boldest lines that we’ve seen on the show in quite a while: “You’re going to wish you stayed dead.” Ouch. Suffice it to say that this is not going to be an easy situation for her to deal with in the weeks ahead. We always love it when there are feuds like this.
But to go any further without talking about the biggest shocker of the night would be failing to do this story justice: The discovery of Mrs. DiLaurentis buried in the back yard thanks to the dog that was sent to the home. Was this entire ordeal a set-up to ensure that the body was found? This entire scene was so wonderfully-rendered, from the music to the sight of Ali in a hoodie watching the police arrive and carry away the body. There is officially another mystery in Rosewood.
As for the return of Jason, we know that he is up to no good. But is he really responsible for what happened to Mrs. D? We have a hard time buying that. The most obvious answer is rarely the right answer when it comes to this show.
In the end, we feel like this episode was half of a great hour of TV. The first half was boring and uneventful, and unfortunately felt like a part of a really long season trying to stall. The second half, meanwhile, was great. Grade: B-.
