‘Pretty Little Liars’ renewed for season 6, season 7 by ABC Family

Who -Are there really more than 70 episodes left to tell of the “Pretty Little Liars” story? Apparently, given that ABC Family has just given the green light to two additional seasons of their smash-hit drama beyond this one.

This renewal, which has stunned most of the TV community given that we don’t even know the ratings for tonight’s premiere just yet, means that the show will be on the air until at least 2016, which will be mostly interesting given that Troian Bellisario could feasibly be playing a high schooler at that point despite being 30 years old. We know from yesterday’s AMA with show creator Marlene King that she is trying to stretch out this senior year, and the first half of this season is going to get us past Thanksgiving and into Christmas. Theoretically, we see graduation taking place in season 7 depending on how much they want to drag on season 6, but we would much prefer the idea of there being a massive time jump at the end of season 6, and maybe have the final season be one that features the Liars coming back after college and trying to find all of their answers then. At a certain point, aging up the show would be a good thing.

The one thing that this renewal will help do for sure is ensure that there is not going to be any sort of quick jump to the big screen. We suppose that this show could make a good feature film and would make money, but we prefer products that start on TV finish that way. Wouldn’t that have made “Sex and the City” that much better?
