‘Britain’s Got Talent’ final review: Lucy Kay, Darcy Oake, Collabro in sensational episode

More news -The “Britain’s Got Talent” final this year had a variety of different acts and no distinct favorite that was leagues ahead. In other words, it had the makings of something great and we are so happy to say that it delivered.

After watching the episode, we are happy in that some of our predictions may have been wrong. There was a real variety of people, and we feel like there are four or five acts right now who possess a legitimate chance of winning. (We’ll have the results posted later.)

Update: Click here to see the results from tonight!

11. Yanis Marshall, Arnaud, and Mehdi – These three are very good at what they do, but it feels like their ceiling is to be really good street performers somewhere that draw a crowd and get donations. We can’t see them carrying a show by dancing in heels longer than just five or ten minutes. Still, we don’t like that Simon Cowell buzzed them.

10. Lettice Rowbotham – Oh Lettice, why did you sing? She actually wasn’t a terrible singer, but we wouldn’t say that she was an amazing one, either. It was more like “why is she singing,” especially since the end of the performance was so emotional and amazing.

9. The Addict Initiative – They were the first act on the night to perform, which was of course the first significant evidence that we have that they weren’t going to win. It was almost like Bollywood but with a horror “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunter” twist to it … but there really wasn’t that much when it comes to actual dancing.

8. Paddy & Nico – We want to be careful with how we say this, given that these two are a great dancing duo who brought so much to their routine. The issue that we have about them winning is that were it not for Paddy’s age, they would not be getting the buzz that they are and we don’t really differentiate one performance from the other.

7. Bars & Melody – These two did a very safe thing in the show in performing a song that we heard back in the auditions. We don’t really love this, even if it is a very popular track. They did good with it, but the choir was so loud that the singer could’ve just been miming the whole time and we wouldn’t know. We were hoping for something more from a duo who we predicted to win before the show.

6. Jon Clegg – So, so funny. The best part to us was watching him to an impression of Jenson Zhu doing an impression if Simon Cowell. There were some repeats in here of past impressions, but we really don’t mind so much when the repeat ones are as good as they were here.

5. James Smith – A very great performance from a guy who could very easily mess things up on the finale. He didn’t use any dancers or backup singers, and just went up there with a guitar and a good song and showed off everything that he could do. There was such much to like here that it is hard to be upset over anything.

4. Collabro – We do not know for sure that this was the best song choice for the group, but at the end of the day they will get plenty of votes regardless. They are tremendous singers, and with their ties to musical theater there are going to be many voters out there for them.

3. Jack Pack – “Feeling Good” is a song that we are quite frankly pretty sick of hearing when it comes to singing competitions. It’s been done to death! Yet, the combination of these four vocalists, their style, and their interpretation made us not care. These guys are fantastic, and deserve everything that they get.

2. Darcy Oake – What an excellent performance this was, and it’s not just because he escaped from a straight-jacket with a second to spare. The presentation and his stage presence were slick and extremely well-executed. While we never felt that his life was actually in danger, there were still stakes since him failing to do this escape would have ruined his entire career.

1. Lucy Kay – There was a part of us that was hoping Lucy wouldn’t just be the best because she was the last person to perform, since that is so cliche that the person who goes last always win. But this was stirring, intense, emotional, and something that legitimately very few out there could sing.
