‘Better Call Saul’: Vince Gilligan already nervous about ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off

Better Call Saul season 1There are a number of reasons to like Vince Gilligan, from his creativity to his artistry to the fact that he sounds like a prospector from an Old West movie.

One other thing that we appreciate? That despite him having one of the greatest TV shows of all time, Gilligan seems to still not have sort of out-of-control ego about anything that he has done. This allows him to be better prepared for “Better Call Saul,” and also allows him to worry about whether or not creating a spin-off to “Breaking Bad” is something that he will regret years down the road.

Gilligan was one of the great TV people who sat down recently for a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, and he went into how he didn’t know yet whether or not his show is going to be either a big hit, or a massive flop that many will shake their head at:

“If it’s After M*A*S*H rather than Frasier, it won’t be for lack of hard work and wishful thinking and a lot of smart people doing their best, but you just don’t know until the world takes it … I am worried that…it may turn out that this was a mistake.”

Gilligan also added that the show is already behind on production, which does cause some concern that they are still trying to figure some things out. One other way to look at it? Maybe the show is just trying to perfect things. We honestly wouldn’t mind the show being delayed beyond its premiere later this fall if it meant that we were getting the best possible product, and not just something we were unsure about.
