‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7 starts filming, our mental countdown begins

The latest -Whenever you reach a certain milestone in a production process, it is pretty easy to start popping the imaginary champagne and celebrating.

Take, for example, what is happening right now in regards to “Sons of Anarchy.” In reality, we are only another day closer to the premiere date than we were yesterday, but it feels different thanks mostly to the fact that season 7 is officially under way when it comes to filming.

Today is the first formal day of shooting the new season, and the premiere episode will be shot in segments. Part of it is going to be filmed, and then there will be a break to work on the second one due to scheduling. This is something that show creator Kurt Sutter touched on in a recent video for fans. As for other details, this installment is being directed by Paris Barclay, which keeps the recent tradition alive of him helming the premiere.

As for most other details for the time being, they are being kept under wraps. We know that Drea de Matteo (Wendy) is a series regular, and that the show will focus heavily on the aftermath of Gemma’s actions with Tara. There are going to be some new characters, with casting on one of them being announced any day now depending on when an outlet decides to release it.

As for the premiere date, think along the lines of either September 9 or 16. This is typically the window in which the show comes back following Labor Day, but before the start of the network season.
