When we mentioned recently that there would be some good news soon when it comes to Alex & Sierra’s upcoming lyric video for “Scarecrow,” we meant it. Now, we are here with the first real teaser for the video, which is going to be coming out on Tuesday, May 27.
Before we do anything else, let’s give a round of applause to Syco and everyone involved at the label for a couple of things here.
1. Showing a real commitment to the duo by not just giving them a music video, but a lyric one and also a teaser for its release. Given that “The X Factor” isn’t even a thing anymore, this would be easy to just sweep under the rug. Ironically, you’re getting more commitment here than many winners of “The Voice” get, and that show delivered much higher ratings.
2. Using the “X Factor” YouTube page to upload this teaser rather than their own official account. That page during three seasons accumulated a ton of subscribers, and that in turn helps to expose the song to as many potential listeners as possible.
It is hard to really judge a tune in full until you hear it from start to finish, but so far there is quite a bit to like here. For one, it has a sound that feels like the perfect marriage between modern pop and folk, something that the Lumineers, Phillip Phillips, and many singer-songwriters right now are embracing. You get to have the essence of a story that you find in a good folk-rock song, but also a catchy hook that will get you on the radio. After all, that is where you make money and expand beyond the show, unless of course you get the song played on some prestigious venue like Phillip did with the Olympics.
Also, there are puppets in the video! Doesn’t that make everything better?
