‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7: Who is directing the premiere episode?
There are a few things that we suppose could be considered traditions when it comes to “Sons of Anarchy” these days: Some episodes will be longer than the typical run time, there will be shocking deaths, and Paris Barclay will direct the premiere episode.
In his latest “WTFSutter” video, creator / showrunner Kurt Sutter confirmed that Barclay, who is also an executive producer on the series, will helm the still-untitled first episode that will begin filming later this month. This will make season 7 the fourth straight year that Barclay has directed the premiere. Sutter uses a rotation of familiar directors to go along with the occasional new one, and each of the past three seasons Barclay has helmed three episodes. It takes an extensive amount of work for directors in pre and post-production, which is why you need to have several accomplished ones in order to make a season work. (We’re personally hoping that Peter Weller is still a part of the directing rotation this year.)
Barclay has also directed some episodes of other familiar shows, including “Glee” (notably the 100th episode from earlier this year) along with two episodes of “The Good Wife.” He was also a created force behind the underrated “In Treatment.”
Sutter also adds in the video below that the cast is just getting a chance now to see one of the first scripts for the new season, and that they are starting to get into casting for the new roles that are being introduced. Hopefully, this means that there will be some announcements in that regard coming up in the future.
