White House Correspondents Dinner 2014: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joe Biden steal show

Veep -Who would’ve ever imagined that one the standouts from the 2014 White House Correspondence Dinner would be someone who wasn’t actually in attendance at the show? Joe Biden starred in a very funny introduction to President Obama’s speech at the event tonight, even though he didn’t appear at the dinner. (Most of the time, the Vice-President does separate from the President, and rarely makes appearances.)

The entire premise of this video was that the real-life veep spent some time having fun with the fictional veep in Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who of course plays Selina Meyer on the HBO show “Veep.” This was, by and large, very entertaining. Was it a little bit toned-down for public television? Sure, since Julia couldn’t swear enough. It was therefore ironic that she appeared in this alongside a Vice-President known for swearing in public.

The real winner for this sketch, though, wasn’t Biden, even though he showed just as much comic timing here as he did during a recent stint on “Parks and Recreation.” Instead, it was “Veep” as a whole. The HBO series does okay in the ratings, but this is the sort of thing that could really improve the numbers.

For those curious, this also wasn’t the first time that Julia and the real VP have spent time together, and all in all, this proves that he has a very good sense of humor about himself and his job. Sometimes, it is a little difficult to do that when you have people telling you how important you are most of the time.
