‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder on finale, cliffhanger

There’s not a whole lot of “The Vampire Diaries” left, so for all of you diehard fans out there, a word to the wise: Be prepared to see some pretty shocking stuff go down. This is not a show that has a tradition of blowing your socks off, and that tradition is only going to continue.

Speaking in a new interview with E!’s Kristin Dos Santos, Ian Somerhalder discussed a little bit about how the cliffhanger for season 5 involves Damon in some way that should surprise you, but also leave you breathlessly clamoring for the next season to start up soon:

“The ending I think is really going to throw people, and it definitely involves Damon and in a very cool way … So I guess the tease would be that there is some very cool stuff with Damon, Elena, Bonnie. Stuff you [didn’t expect] … it’s definitely a cliffhanger.”

Ian joked that Damon had a shocking death scene, but this is obviously just him messing around. (Don’t press the panic button, internet!)

For all of you interested ladies out there, Ian said that he is currently single, and added in a way that he has a hard time imagining dating in Hollywood. Maybe after the long-term relationship with Nina Dobrev he has gone in a different direction in his personal life, but to be honest, we are mostly surprised just to hear him talking about the subject at all. Ian has traditionally been a pretty quiet guy when it comes to who he is with, and has kept most of the conversation instead on his busy schedule (which includes both the hit show and also his foundation).
