‘Chicago PD’ episode 12 review: Was the end of the crossover event a success?

“Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD” took its risks in airing a crossover event over the past two days, and they must have really had a good bit of belief that fans of both shows were going to be able to tune in here and enjoy the complete story all about saving lives, and fixing what was a disaster that didn’t look like it could be fixed.

In the end, there were tragedies, but there was also a little bit of hope. The biggest surprise is that there was enough of this episode in here to make us think that the show really was auditioning some sort of “Chicago Medical” series set at the hospital. After all, they had Amanda Righetti coming over following her time at “The Mentalist.”

The strength of this two-parter was that by and large, there really wasn’t that much in here that you could say was a shocking or surprising character moment. Most of that transpired in exactly the way that you would’ve expected, though the scene between Lindsay and Severide at the end may have made some of you frequent shippers of the two smile. It’s a smart idea to keep these two together, given that it further establishes a connection between one show and the other.

This episode, and really the two as a whole, were more about the overall story of what happened, and how over the course of two hours the departments and the police managed to pick up the pieces. It was inspirational in that way that despite all the bureaucracy and the motivations that can at times conflict, in the end people realize what is important and work to that goal. Achieving this alone is an achievement, though “Chicago PD” still has work to do in order to become elite. Grade: B.
