‘American Idol XIII’ top 5 song spoilers: What Alex Preston, Jessica Meuse will perform

American Idol -

Tonight’s “American Idol XIII” will be brought to you by the letters “WTF,” which is what we thought to ourselves after seeing what some of these contestants were being pawned with performing on the show. Some of these song choices range from “what?” to “oh no,” and the few good ones are masked by that.

Just remember, these were suggestions FROM THE VIEWERS. Someone needs to call Oliver Queen, since there are some people below who seriously failed this city. This full list comes courtesy of TVLine.

Alex Preston, “Say Something” from a Great Big World and “Sweater Weather” from the Neighborhood – Given that Alex is already friends with Alex & Sierra from “The X Factor” and has a very similar vibe to them as a performer, making him do their coronation song “Say Something” is eye-rolling. Serious, viewers, force this guy to do something surprising! “Sweater Weather” is a little better; we weren’t that familiar with the song before checking it out, but at least it’s different.

Caled Johnson, “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” from Aerosmith and “Still of the Night” from Whitesnake – The artists know better than the viewers. This is proof, forcing Caleb to become nothing more than a cover artist from songs that are almost as dated as former judge Steven Tyler’s fashion sense. “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” has been done. To. Death. What was the person who suggested this thinking? Were they brainlessly sending in suggestions just hoping for random retweets?

Jena Irene, “My Body” from Young the Giant and “Valerie” from Amy Winehouse – Jena wins for getting the best song choices. “My Body” is one of those songs that you’ve probably heard on commercials without knowing it. “Valerie,” meanwhile, shows off the jazzy part of her voice that often gets lost in the rock numbers.

Jessica Meuse, “Human” from Christina Perri and “Summertime Sadness” from Lana Del Rey – We were hoping that this was going to be “Human” from The Killers, mostly because we wanted to hear if Jessica was human or dancer. Instead, she has a song that’ll be interpreted on the show most likely as a drippy ballad and a very weird Lana Del Rey song that will be hard to turn into something interesting on the show.

Sam Woolf, “Sing” from Ed Sheeran and “How To Save a Life” from The Fray – Hey, it’s the “Grey’s Anatomy” song! There’s nothing new that Sam will bring to that, and “Sing” has the potential to be a disaster given how deceptively hard the rhythm of this song is. Good luck, Sam. You’ll need it.
