‘The Following’ season 3: 3 things that need to happen to keep Fox drama fresh

Following -Tonight, “The Following” season 2 says goodbye on Fox with an episode that is going to stir up all sorts of conversation. You’ll have Joe and Ryan potentially moving forward and trying to work together for one, and the thought of that is pretty insane in itself. Then, you also have the possibility of some character deaths, and a cliffhanger to set up what will be the show’s third season.

Since there is already a firm renewal in the books, we may as well toy around here and list out the three things that the show needs to do in order to actually bring us back to the feeling we had watching the first few episodes.

1. No more Joe Carroll – It pains us to say it, but get rid of Joe. There is nothing else that James Purefoy’s character can do, given we have already seen him be as terrible as humanly possible, and also attack a number of people that he supposedly loves. Move on with a new villain.

2. More consistency – Have an arc that makes sense from start-to-finish on the show, given that it really didn’t feel this season like there was a cohesive plan from beginning to end. One extra bit of evidence of this came in the religious component to this season, which came completely out of nowhere.

3. Better FBI characters – Save for Mike and Max, everyone else in the bureau is completely boring at this point. Let’s make this a little more dynamic, no? If you are going to include the FBI in this show, they need to be more intelligent characters who have depth and feelings … not drones.
