‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4: Approximate premiere date window set

As we reported earlier this week, some selected cast members and producers for “Hell on Wheels” made an appearance this weekend at the Calgary Expo, and that led to many great opportunities for the fans to get an up-close-and-personal look at many people behind TV’s great Western gem.

Even for people not at the convention, though, it allowed us to at least have a sliver of additional insight into what is coming up. There were hundreds in attendance at the panel this afternoon, and while there was not too much discussion about spoilers or major plots ahead, reports are via Twitter that season 4 is set to premiere the first week of August. This may technically mean Saturday, August 2, but we’ll wait to pencil that down officially until a press release is set out. August 9 could be a possibility as well, since that is the second full weekend in August.

The time frame here is ultimately pretty much perfect for the show to come back around that time, given that it premiered last year on August 10 with a two-part episode. Like “The Walking Dead,” AMC has figured out a nice little window for the show now that seems to work out well for it. We also have to say that despite our initial trepidation, we’ve come to enjoy the Saturday timeslot, as well. It gives us a chance to have original programming on a night where we’re usually stuck with just waiting for “Saturday Night Live” to come on the air. This spares it from competition, and allows it to be placed around some other Western programming.
