‘Agents of SHIELD’ finale spoilers: ‘Beginning of the End,’ and Coulson vs. Hydra

Does it feel somewhat strange to anyone else that some of the primary stories we are getting set to tackle in the “Agents of SHIELD” finale were actually furthered along mostly by “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” just as much as the show itself? In some ways, that reflects both the show’s weaknesses but also the strength of Marvel to create a vast platform between all of their different projects.

Regardless of how it was formed, though, we still must admit to being thoroughly excited about everything coming up the rest of the way. There is going to be action, huge surprises, an epic battle between Coulson and Garrett, and plenty more. While a season 2 of the series has not been officially ordered as of yet, we still firmly believe that the writers went into this finale expecting one. Why wouldn’t they? This show has a huge investment behind it, and while the ratings have sagged, they are probably still good enough for there to be another year … especially now that the plot is getting closer to matching the hype.

Admittedly, though, the official synopsis from the finale (via ABC) really doesn’t do a whole lot more than just reaffirm most of what we already suspected:

“Dark secrets are revealed as Coulson and his team put everything on the line to stop Garrett and the forces of Hydra, on the explosive season finale.”

To us anyway, what we are the most curious about after reading something like this is what the Marvel movies are going to do in order to address the state of SHIELD when the next one comes out, and Coulson has found a way to put the organization back together again. It gets rid of some tension for movie-watchers only, but hopefully they are distracted enough by the heroes that they do not care.
