ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 debate: The case for more Andrew
Sorry, Gladiators, for the lack of no new “Scandal” Thursday night. This is going to be a long hiatus for many of you, but we want to be there for you every step of the way to discuss what could be coming up … and also who should have more air time.
There’ll be more of these debates throughout the summer month, but we want to start things off here by raising a very simple question: Will we see more Andrew on season 4, and should we? With Fitz now in power, the door is clearly open for the veep in the same way that it was previously open for Sally Langston to show up. (She is the real loser here, since it’s hard to say what sort of story she’s going to have moving forward. This also leaves the door open for Mellie more than it has been in the past. Since there is no way that Fitz can be elected to office a third time, there is therefore no reason to be concerned about whether or not an affair between his wife and his second-in-command would hurt him. All it would do is damage his own career if he wants to be President someday.
So now, we address the debate as to just how much Andrew could be too much Andrew.
The case for more Andrew – Mellie needs a reason for her story to be complicated too! It can’t all just be about Olivia and Fitz and nobody else within the White House anymore. Andrew mixes things up, and he causes Fitz to have tantrums. We love Fitz tantrums!
The case for less Andrew – Is there any new ground for this relationship to touch on? Other than seeing what happens if there is a White House divorce or Olivia tries to ruin the relationship, it’s going to be hard for there to be anything new that was not addressed in season 3.
Either way, you’re going to see Jon Tenney again in some capacity, mostly because it makes no sense for him to not be around. But which side are you on? I would like to see Olivia and Fitz come together as a couple. They are the reason I and millions of others started watching Scandal. They are the main couple on the show. It would be television suicide to suddenly try and change the dynamics of this show. I’m sure Shonda and crew would like to keep the majority of Scandal’s fan base. The “Olitz,” factor has made this show extremely popular, along with Kerry Washington’s portrayal of Olivia. I can’t go a week without reading an article referring to Olivia Pope (what would Olivia Pope do) in a real life scandal, as jus today in the Huffington Post. The fans have grown tired of the back and forth between Liv and Fitz. Then to suddenly have Fitz and Mellie as a couple that wouldn’t make any sense. The Fitz character would not look believable, more of a fraud. You don’t get to be over fifty and find the love of your life, and suddenly he’s fallen in love again, even if that person is his wife. Their marriage was never sold to us as a great love, but a partnership. It would take years for them to fall deep in love, they would have to learn each other all over again, and that’s another show not a show about Olivia Pope. The only couple that can sell Scandal as the main couple is Olivia and Fitz, not Fitz and Mellie. Scandal wouldn’t have survived this long if Fitz and Mellie were the main couple, no chemistry of excitement about that pairing. In the words of an Ojays song, “Got to give the people, give the people what they want.”

It would not interest me to see emotional problems and drama resulting from a Andrew/Mellie affair; we have a lot of that in other love affairs in Scandal, which I enjoy, but adding another would become too much theatrics to the point of irritating instead of entertaining.
Although, I am a Olitz fan I’d rather watch a developing love between Fitz and Mellie; now that would be very interesting!… since a romantic love between these two, especially of Fitz for Mellie, has been absent from their marriage for more then ten years. It would be very interesting to see how Fitz would feel as these new feelings for Mellie begin to affect him. Mellie never stopped Loving Fitz but it’s a love without ardor, so it would also be very entertaining to see that ardor develop in Mellie and watch her woe Fitz, not merely into bed, but to fall in-love with her.
I suspect that my wonderful Olivia and dear Jake will be in some other part of the world building a successful business together, so when this couple next meet Fitz and Mellie – within Fitz new found appreciation and affection for Mellie it will be interesting to see how Fitz and Olivia relate to each other;…. especially sense I expect that Olivia during this passage of time has fallen in-love with Jake who already was in-love with Olivia and therefore now his Love may be very passionately possessive.
Nevertheless, in Fitz heart a seed of something special for Olivia remains – will it re-ignite and cause trouble between him and Jake. A trouble that perhaps is too big because Jake has developed into a powerful business man in his own right. Perhaps, a shady business but nevertheless powerful – we know that the most successful businessmen are cutthroat white collar “killers”; Jake is well suited for that role in the Corporate world.
He really has just a tiny bit too much heart to continue being a merciless Killer in B613. Jake’s staying with his victim James until he passed his last breath seemed to indicate that he’s a Killer with a heart. Although, I adore Fitz, Jake also has managed to “steal” a special place in my heart and my affections for Jake grow stronger, especially in Season’s last four episodes.
I adore how Jake Loves Olivia; different from how Fitz loves her. Jake is always personally ready to risk and give his life for Olivia and has done so. Jake being a single man truly dedicates his heart to his beloved without the need to share his affections with a wife and children. One might say Jakes love for Olivia , although Very virile has a more of a tender pasion than Fitz’s; whereas, Fitz is possibly fueled by more aggressive passion that is also more self centered.
